Recommended for:
Ocean cruise

This is your chance to enjoy a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, traversing five continents while enjoying all-inclusive drinks and fine dining throughout. There’s the remote, paradise islands of the Pacific and Indian oceans, the city icons and golden sands of New Zealand and Australia, and the neon metropolises and ancient traditions of Asia. Japan along with the wildlife of Borneo and Komodo are particular highlights. Then, everything from Sri Lanka’s lost cities to Africa’s thumping energy and Europe’s grandeur will see you end on the River Thames.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

Begin in style with complimentary airport lounge access and a business class flight to San Francisco. From the Golden Gate Bridge to its thumping arts scene, this is the West Coast at its vibrant best. And, on arrival, a private transfer will see you to the luxurious Silver Whisper. With more space per passenger than any other cruise ship, you’ll be treated to open bars, beauty salons, a library, a superb fitness centre, a theatre, spa, card room and even a casino. Then, after the first of you all-inclusive, gourmet meals – from a pool grill to Relais & Châteaux French cuisine – you’ll settle into your marble-accented suite. Here, you’ll enjoy the likes of panoramic ocean views, free WiFi, and a tailored, complimentary minibar.

Days 2-13
French Polynesia

Your first week is spent at sea, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the ship’s superb facilities; remember, on top of the all-inclusive drinks and dining, you’ll also have $4,000 in onboard spending money. Crossing the Pacific, you’ll arrive into French Polynesia’s white sands, verdant peaks and azure, snorkellers’ waters – the reef home to dolphins, turtles and rays. Your island highlights include the diving paradise of Rangiroa, laid-back Moorea and Huka Hiva, home to one of the world’s tallest waterfalls. However, it’s perhaps Tahiti that steals the show, its golden sands, mountainous beauty and unique archaeology holding equal allure.

Days 14-27
Polynesia to New Zealand and Sydney

Departing from Tahiti, you’ll be treated to further tropical-island idyll in Bora Bora, the Cook Islands’ Rarotonga and – crossing over the date line – Tonga’s Neiafu. Expect thatched wooden huts jutting over pristine beaches and colourful reefs watched over by bright-green, hikable volcanoes. You’ll then be welcomed to New Zealand by Auckland. Outside of its bustling modernity, there’s everything from vineyard islands to Maori-carved rainforests. Then, it’s on to Sydney – a true city of icons. But, look beyond its Opera House and Harbour Bridge to discover a cobbled-street heritage, the café chic of Paddington and the white sands of Bondi.

Days 28-41
Australia to Indonesia

After a further day to explore Sydney’s bustling delights, you’ll cruise up the coast to Brisbane. Here, 19th-century timber homes remember the city’s colonial past while towering skyscrapers evidence its glittering present. You’ll then continue to Cairns – the gateway to rainforest treks, kangaroo-dotted savannah and the famed Great Barrier Reef. With a last pause at tropical Darwin’s golden sands, you’ll next hop over to Indonesia and Komodo – a volcanic island famed for its giant lizards and a true step back to prehistory. You’ll then arrive onto Bali to take in everything from temples and rice-terrace villages to giant volcanoes and pretty beaches.

Days 42-54
Southeast Asia to Taiwan and Japan

Following a second day on Bali, you’ll sail the Java Sea to the turtle beaches and orangutan rainforests of Malaysian Borneo. You’ll then cruise north to the Filipino capital – Manila. Here, in between its megacity skyline, you’ll discover Baroque churches and centuries-old citadels before you continue to the riverside coffee shops, swimming beaches and waterfront parks of Kaohsiung. Staying in Taiwan, it’s then on to Keelung’s seafood night market – a launchpad for Taipei’s spectacular spread of skyscraping icons and historic temples. But, it’s Japan’s futurism that’s most impressive. In both Osaka and Tokyo you’ll lose yourself in neon street mazes before taking in imperial palaces and great, tiered castles.

Days 55-70
Tokyo to China and Southeast Asia

Cruising the South China Sea, after a further day in Tokyo, you’ll arrive at Shanghai. Here, its shimmering collection of glass and steel architecture rubs shoulders with historic, lantern-lit laneways – a fitting contrast of old and new. It’s a similar story in your next stops, Hong Kong and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City. In the former, beautiful national parks frame the city’s glitzy excess, while the latter hosts pretty French-colonialism that looks down on dumpling hawkers. You’ll then arrive into Singapore. A vibrant island city, its rich past is evidenced in everything from sci-fi displays of contemporary wealth to districts and cuisine that bears influence from as far afield as Arabia and India.

Days 71-86
The Indian Ocean: Southeast Asia to Kenya

Leaving Singapore, you’ll arrive at Kuala Lumpur’s Port Klang. Although dominated by the Petronas Towers, the Malaysian capital is alive with cultural grit, from Chinese markets to Indian street scenes. You’ll then hop over to Sri Lanka to take in the Buddhist temples, beach sunsets and colonial boulevards of Colombo along with Trincomalee’s UNESCO-listed duo. There’s Polonnaruwa, an ancient, jungle-clad city, and Sigiriya – a fortress built atop a giant rock. Then, between three stops in the Maldives and Seychelles, you’ll take in palm-fringed white sands, technicolour coral and bathtub-warm waters before arriving in Mombasa. The Kenyan capital’s trading history lives on in buzzing souk markets and the fortressed Old Harbour, plied by dhow boats.

Days 87-100
Kenya to South Africa

A second day in Mombasa will then see you depart for Zanzibar. Tanzania’s beach-lined and rainforest-dotted jewel also exhibits a delightful Arabic influence, evidenced across spice-scented and whitewashed towns. A stop at Mayotte – a tiny French island of pristine beaches and superb dive sites – will then see you to Maputo, Mozambique’s laidback capital. After taking in the fading colonial architecture of its palm-lined streets, you’ll move on to South Africa. Compare Durban’s market chaos to its well-heeled waterfront, tour East London’s vibrant townships and take in the Zulu culture that plays out over the battlefield hinterlands of Richards Bay. Then there’s Cape Town whose mountain icon looks over sunset beaches, Afro-chic suburbs and world-class vineyards.

Stay: Silver Whisper

Meals: B L D

Days 101-123
Cape Town to the Iberian Peninsula

You’ll have a third day to explore Cape Town before moving onto the flamingos, Art Nouveau architecture and giant desert dunes of Namibia’s Walvis Bay. It’s then up to São Tomé, a volcanic island of dense jungles and European mansions, before you arrive at the beaches, coffee plantations and buzzy markets of Lomé, Togo. Then, in Tema, you’ll pair Ghana’s frenetic capital with kingfisher-plied sands before you continue to Banjul, Gambia and Dakar, Senegal where mosques loom over historic monuments. A stop for Casablanca’s French-colonialism and colossal, seafront mosque will then bring you to Seville, home to Moorish castle-palaces and the world’s largest cathedral. Lastly, there’s the tram-rattled cobblestone of Lisbon, its terracotta views as pretty as its pastel houses.

Days 124-132
Lisbon to London

Following your second day in Lisbon, you’ll continue on to Spain and Bilbao. An artistic jewel, this Basque Country city is resplendent in modernist architecture. The Guggenheim Museum is a particular highlight, its golden sweep as majestic as its art galleries. You’ll then arrive into France with Bordeaux. After taking in its neoclassical beauty and café culture, be sure to taste your way through its famous wineries. Your next stop is Saint-Malo, that great Gothic port city whose stern walls hide Romanesque cathedrals. You’ll then end in Greenwich for City-of- London views from the Royal Observatory and the chance to straddle the hemispheres. A private valet will then see you home.
