It’s all brought to life by lectures on the fjords’ natural history and their only settlement – Puerto Eden. And, the further south you go, the better the chance of spotting Andean condors soaring above the hills and mountains. Come the afternoon, you’ll then head out on the ship’s Zodiacs to get up close to the Pio XI Glacier – a 4.5km-wide monolith that calves off giant icebergs. The next day, you’ll cruise through the White Narrows. Here, mountains loom on either side, dappled with hardy native plants. Keep your eyes out for seals and dolphins.
