Day 2
Portovenere, Italy

This historic port is lined with ancient houses from as early as the 12th century. And the dominant citadel dates from then, as well. Below that, explore the grotto where Lord Byron used to daydream. Or climb the castle beside St. Peter’s church for a view of the villages of Cinque Terre clinging to the cliffs across the gulf.

Day 3
Bastia, Corsica

Corsica’s most important port is nestled at the base of the northward-pointing finger of Cap Corse, between a looming mountain and the sea. The oldest part of town is dominated by the honey-coloured Genoese citadel, which today holds the museum of history. The busy, 19th Century Place St-Nicolas is bordered in plane trees and pleasant cafes. There are a number of interesting churches, including the twin-steepled St. Jean-Batiste and the church of St.-Croix, which has a gilded ceiling and a curious black oak cross recovered from the sea in 1428. Climb the winding stairway from the waterfront to the Jardin Romieu for wonderful views over the town and the Vieux Port.

Day 4
Monte Carlo, Monaco

The Principality of Monaco is the epitome of Riviera chic. This tiny enclave of 370 acres surrounds a sheltered harbor that draws yachts from around the world to enjoy the beautiful scenery, mild weather and elegant casino. Glamorous Monte Carlo is one of Monaco's four quarters, which also include La Condamine, the business district; Monaco-ville, the capital; and Fontvieille, an area built on reclaimed land. Ruled by Prince Albert II, Monaco has a population of over 32,000, of which about 16 percent are citizens, or Monégasques.

Day 5
St Tropez, France

On the southern shore of one of the most beautiful bays of the Riviera, the little port of St. Tropez has become one of the best known resorts in Europe, a crossroads where journalists, photographers, writers, artists and celebrities meet. Guy de Maupassant discovered the town, but it was the painters who made it more widely known - Signac, Matisse, Bonnard, Marquet, Camoin - who all stayed for varying amounts of time. The harbor teems with life. Fishing boats, excursion craft and hundreds of yachts share the harbor. On the waterfront are old pink and yellow houses, which have been converted into cafes, cabarets and restaurants, luxury boutiques, galleries and antique shops. A picturesque and cosmopolitan crowd strolls the streets in season.

Day 6
Marseille, France

Marseilles, France's second-largest city after Paris, is an exciting, cosmopolitan port comprised of some sixteen distinct arrondissements, or neighborhoods. A large Algerian contingent calls the city home, adding its own inimitable accent. Much of the city's oldest section, Le Panier, was destroyed by German troops during World War II, sparing only three fine old edifices, including Hotel de Ville (City Hall). Two fortresses, St.-Jean and St.-Nicolas, guard the harbor entrance, while Marseilles's oldest church, Basilique St.-Victor, is virtually a fortress as well. This is a fine city for touring on foot, with sufficient cafes to provide refreshments along the way.

Day 7
The beaches of Palamos

Today you'll arrive into the port of Palamos, one of your first of three Spanish ports. Located at the foot of the mountains of Spain's rugged Costa Brava and boasts seven superb beaches and is an idyllic location to relax and unwind under the warm Mediterranean sun. You may wish to visit the Platja Gran beach, with its central location, perfect for easy access to the city's Old Town or perhaps the slightly further Platja Foscam with is quieter vibe – both fine choices to enjoy that glass of Sangria. Outside Palamos, head to Pubol to discover the bizarre and surrealist work of Salvador Dali or the immortal city of Girona, full of historic treasures and one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Spain.

Day 8
Barcelona & Return to UK

This morning you'll arrive in Catalonia's capital city, Barcelona, famous for its tapas serving restaurants, beautiful cathedrals and of course, the inspired works of Gaudi and Pablo Picasso. If times permits before your airport transfer, you may wish to walk the narrow alleys of the the gothic quarter discovering small shops and restaurants or head to one of Gaudi's more iconic works of art, the yet finished La Sagrada Familia and a true testament of his unique artistic style. If you wish to explore the city and it's many fascinating sites in more detail, speak to our experts and extend your stay in Barcelona.
