Location
With heritage buildings and craft shops, Central Tilba has preserved much of its boomtown charm. Originally a mining town, it’s now a perfect stop off point on the coastal route south from Sydney where you can enjoy boutique cafés and hearty Australian pubs. The hotel itself is a mere 500m from the town so you can wander in to stock up on local produce from the farmers’ market or enjoy an evening of live music and warm hospitality. Slightly further afield you’ll find national parks and the beach and surfing delights of Mystery Bay.
Accommodation
The Bryn at Tilba has a separate residence for guests meaning you can enjoy private views of the estate’s eight acres of park-like grounds from your room’s sunny wraparound verandah. The hotel comprises just three rooms, all of which invite in rays through their large windows and feature traditional whitewashed walls to make the most of the Australian sun. Flat screen TVs and complimentary WiFi bring the accommodation into the 21st century. Look to The Cottage for family-sized lodging complete with fully equipped kitchen.
Dining
At The Byrn, your day begins with a continental or cooked breakfast served in the French farmhouse or your own verandah. Included in the nightly tariff, along with complimentary chocolates, cookies and port, the breakfast features seasonal local produce. To make the most of the sunshine, all accommodation comes with access to a barbecue on the verandah, complete with cooking utensils and dining-ware. For those choosing to dine out, there are plenty of restaurants, bakeries and cafés within walking distance in Tilba town.
Facilities
Once you’ve had your fill of Aussie barbecues and sun, be sure to use the hotel as a springboard into the local attractions. Aside from the charm of the nearby heritage villages, there are local vineyards to visit and the Tasman Sea a short drive away. Here you can join guided tours to Montague Island, dive and snorkel with seals, try your hand at fishing or even try to spot a whale.
