Location
Tucked away in Lisbon's diplomatic quarter, this luxury hilltop hotel is surrounded by ornamental sub-tropical gardens and flanked by grand consulates and embassies. Despite its peaceful setting, Olissippo Lapa Palace is just a short distance from the city's vibrant shops and restaurants, historic monument areas, and the famous pier. Elegant rooms with views of Lisbon’s Tagus River – and the tranquil fountains and walkways of the hotel grounds – offer the perfect retreat after days spent exploring the city.
Accommodation
Once the residence of the Count of Valença, Lapa Palace was converted into hotel in 1992. 109 extensively renovated rooms – including eight suites – are divided into three opulent wings: Villa Lapa, the Palace wing, and the Garden wing. Each room showcases a unique style; contemporary Portuguese, grand country house and sumptuous palatial furnishings reflect everything from art deco to classical design. Garden Suites offer pretty views across the grounds, while Villa Suites occupy the sixth floor of the villa itself. If you feel like spoiling yourself, the Royal Suite is the most opulent, located in the original Palace and decorated in a lavish 19th-century style.
Dining
Portugal is well known for its food and wine and Olissippo Lapa Palace lives up to all expectations, particularly in its authentic restaurant menus and warm hospitality. Dine on Mediterranean favourites at Lapa Restaurant, or head to Le Pavillon for poolside snacks and fresh seafood during the warmer months. Come evening, you'll want to stop by the Rio Tejo Bar for a drink accompanied by live piano music. Of course, if you'd like to relax in the comfort of your room, 24-hour room service is at your disposal.
Facilities
Lapa Palace boasts both an indoor and outdoor pool; the latter set amongst the hotel's beautiful gardens, with a children's pool nearby. There's a fully-equipped gymnasium, sauna and Turkish steam bath, while the Lapa Palace Spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments, including luxurious massages. And, you're not far from everything Lisbon has to offer – take a walk or a short drive into the centre of it all.
