Location
Sited on Australia’s southeast tip, Gipsy Point’s unique topology features everything from rocky coastal headlands and pure white sandy beaches to temperate rainforest and heathland. It’s also home to over 1,000 plants and 300 species of birds, which can be spotted on peak walks or while taking to the water with plenty of surfing, swimming, diving and snorkelling opportunities. It’s a short drive from the picturesque Genoa Falls and a 20-minute drive from Mallacoota.
Accommodation
Generously sized apartments make up the hotel’s accommodation with the choice between waterfront lodging and being set back on a gentle incline for sweeping lake views. The latter come in a varity of one or two bedrooms with a kitchen area that leads on to an expansive verandah – the perfect place to enjoy a glass of something cold. The waterfront apartments add private barbecues to their decks and also come with spa baths. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout.
Dining
With fine kitchen facilities, many guests opt to go down the self-catering route to take full advantage of the array of fresh produce available locally. Look out for supplies of fresh fish, prawns and oysters or treats from nearby Mallacoota’s baker and butcher. Continental or cook your own breakfast hampers are available on request, delivered the night before, while a selection of delicious homemade casseroles are put on for dinner. Alternatively, staff can recommend from the nearby restaurants and bistros.
Facilities
Onsite, all accommodation comes with laundry facilities along with dishwashers. Guests can socialise in the lounge or over the shared barbecue facilities while, on the lake, there are moorings and free use of the hotel’s canoes. A little further afield, there are wilderness cruises through the waterways of Gipsy Point, which are also home to excellent fishing. There are also several criss-crossing self-guided walks through river flats and across heritage bridges.
