Dubbed the world’s first city-centre spa hotel, The Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget is situated on leafy Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube. It is connected to the Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget via a heated underground corridor, and services at either hotel are at guests’ disposal. The 4-kilometre island is a protected botanical parkland with ancient trees, formal gardens, walking and jogging tracks, a musical fountain and an open-air stage.
All rooms have a balcony with views over the river or the island, and cruiseship excursions depart from directly outside the hotel. In addition to the thermal baths and treatments at the spa, the hotel has a fitness centre offering personal training and consultation and group yoga, aerobic and aqua fitness classes.
We like: Great fitness and wellness facilities in a quiet and secluded location.
Best for: Good value short-break fitness and rejuvenation.
Health & wellness
The spa: Therapies and treatments at the spa use water from three of Margaret Island’s natural thermal springs. Facilities include a thermal bath, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna and steam cabin, and a salt cave, and treatments focus on relaxation, revitalisation, beauty and fitness.
Signature treatment: The salt cave, constructed with rock salt from the Dead Sea, is a relaxing therapy that clears the airwaves and boosts the immune system.
