Lodges
Location
Located on the Coromandel Peninsula’s east cost on over 6,000 square metres of native bush, this luxury lodge commands views over Tairua Estuary and out to Slipper Island and the Pacific Ocean beyond. It’s ideally sited for the region’s golf courses, bush walks, Cathedral Cove and the famed Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own hot tub in the sand to enjoy the naturally heated waters. For more traditional enjoyment, take your pick of beaches for swimming and surfing or head into the peninsula’s mountainous interior for a collection of gorgeous hikes.
Accommodation
You’ll have the choice of three delightful rooms, each with its own en suite bathroom featuring a spa bath and shower. Bi-fold doors open onto a private patio area overlooking the lodge’s pool and, while contemporary facilities firmly site Colleith in the 21st century – there are satellite flatscreen TVs and broadband internet – the stained timber drawers and wicker chairs remind of more traditional times. They also all come complimentary tea and coffee facilities.
Dining
A full breakfast is included in the nightly rate, taken either al fresco on the patio or inside in the dining room depending on the weather. Expect fresh juices, a range of cereals, yoghurt, a fruit platter, home-stewed fruits and mixed grain toast served with homemade jams. If you’d prefer, there’s an option of a cooked breakfast with eggs made to order, crispy bacon, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes with basil. Omelettes are also available with your choice of fillings. For lunch and dinner, head out to one of the several excellent local restaurants.
Facilities
Despite its size, the lodge features a spa pool and in-ground lap pool with views over the lodge’s verdure, the estuary and the Pacific. It’s ideal for a relaxed dip after a day’s exploration. To get up close, make use of one of the free-to-use kayaks to discover it all for yourself. In the evenings, you’ll enjoy complimentary pre-dinner drinks with a wine collection that features some of New Zealand’s best varietals. It’s the perfect introduction to this New World viticulture darling.
