Sample itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Arrive and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Lima to the Sacred Valley
Fly over the Andes to Cuzco and continue by road to the Sacred Valley. En route, visit Pisac, bursting with colour on market days, and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.
Day 3 Machu Picchu
Journey by train to the ruins perched on a mountainside. Learn of its Inca history in a full-day tour.
Days 4–5 Cuzco
Return by rail to Cuzco and explore its many interesting markets, museums, churches and cathedrals.
Day 6 Quito
Fly to Quito via Lima. Transfer to your hotel before an evening tour of the city before dinner. Evening illuminations add a real drama to the city’s baroque architecture.
Day 7 The Avenue of Volcanoes
Travel from Quito to Riobamba aboard Chiva Express, a traditional South American bus. Sitting on the roof watching Andean scenery is a real highlight.
Day 8 Cuenca
Continue by Chiva Express to the colonial town of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 9 Guayaquil
A fantastic journey by road, descending down through the Andes to Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city.
Days 10–13 Cruising in the Galapagos
Fly to the Galapagos to join a four-night cruise aboard M/V Santa Cruz. See an enormous diversity of wildlife in the air, on land and in the water.
M/V Santa Cruz was built exclusively for Galapagos cruising. Its 46 cabins, each with either porthole or picture windows, are spread over three decks to increase stability and reduce seasickness. The huge deck has a bar, jacuzzi and observation platform, with excursions led by a team of experienced naturalists.
Days 14–15 Guayaquil
Return to Guayaquil before flying to the UK the next day.
