Uluru & the Red Centre Tour
1 night Alice Springs • 1 night Kings Canyon • 2 nights Uluru
Day 1: Alice Springs
Arrive in Alice Springs by midday and transfer to The Chiefly Alice Springs Resort. In the afternoon you’ll take a tour of Alice Springs, visiting the base of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the School of the Air, which enables Outback children to study by way of a ‘virtual classroom’, and the Old Telegraph Station.
Stay: The Chiefly Alice Springs Resort (RO)
Day 2: Camel Farm & Kings Canyon
Take a look round an Outback camel farm before arriving at APT’s exclusive Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge, set among the desert oak trees of a family run cattle and camel station. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walk along the rim of 270-metre-deep Kings Canyon, a walk that passes through the Garden of Eden, a sheltered valley with permanent waterholes that’s been known to Aboriginals for 20,000 years.
In the evening you’ll get to dine beneath the stars around the lodge’s campfire - an enchanting Outback experience.
Stay: Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge (BD)
Day 3: Uluru
After breakfast join a tour of Kings Creek Station for a chance to see camels, kangaroos and some ancient Aboriginal rock carvings. After freshening up back at the lodge you’ll set off for Voyages Ayers Rock Resort, visit the cultural centre, enjoy a couple of guided Aboriginal walks and take a seat - champagne in hand - for one of the most memorable sunsets Australia has to offer. The play of light on the surface of Uluru at sunset is often so mesmerising it’s easy to see why a world of mythology has been woven around it.
Stay: Sails in the Desert (part of Voyages Ayers Rock Resort) (RO)
NB Sails in the Desert is undertaking renovations from 30 Jan to 31 Jul 2012. During this time, food and drink outlets will be closed and some noise pollution is expected. Our Australia specialists will be happy to discuss alternative accommodation with you should you plan to visit at this time.
Day 4: Uluru & Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)
Today begins in as spectacular fashion as the last one ended, by watching sunrise over ancient Uluru. Then it’s off to Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas. These towering dome-shaped rocks lie west of Uluru and some are 200 metres taller than the monolith itself. The walk between them through Walpa Gorge is really quite a thrill and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding desert plains.
End your day with a Sounds of Silence dinner, listening to storytellers share tales from Aboriginal folklore after another gourmet meal beneath the starry southern skies.
