Delhi tourism 'will be boosted by Games'

Article content

1 April 2010

Holidays in India will be boosted by international visitors travelling to the country to watch the 2010 Commonwealth Games, one expert has suggested.

Caroline Eden, writing for The Times, said while tourism is currently steady, there is likely to be a boom of activity during the sporting event.

Delhi is often used as an entry and exit point for those going to India's most popular locations - Rajasthan and Agra - she commented.

However, an extra 100,000 people are predicted to make a beeline for the city once the Games are about to get underway, Ms Eden stated.

According to the journalist, hotels in India are also beginning to prepare their services for the additional capacity.

"The luxury hotel sector is wasting no time in planning parties and events," she remarked, with new offering Aman Delhi being just one of a number of establishments readying itself for increased trade.

UK residents will not need to travel as far for the next Commonwealth Games, with the 2014 spectacle being held in Glasgow.
