Swapping Venice for Verona, this tailor-made route combines one of the world’s most iconic rail journeys with one of Italy’s greatest cities. Indeed, you’ll begin with a stay in a luxurious Veronan palace, taking in both the city’s ancient wonders and its gastronomic pleasures. Then, it’s time for the headline act. Sweeping through rural Europe and over the mighty Alps, you’ll step back to the opulence of the 1920s aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, enjoying a series of fine-dining experiences as you go. This journey is also available as a no-fly option.
Day by day itinerary
After beginning your trip in style with complimentary airport lounge access, board your flight out to Verona. Alternatively, our no-fly option will see you take the Eurostar to Paris, where you'll change to a premium en-suite sleeper cabin for the overnight journey to Verona. Either way, you’ll be met on arrival by a private driver, who’ll bring you to your luxury accommodation – a historic palace resplendent in medieval frescoes and designer furnishings. Built on Roman ruins – which are showcased by a glass floor – you’ll be right in the city’s historic centre. It’s the backdrop for today’s included tasting tour of Verona’s culinary delights. An expert guide will bring you between local haunts to sip rich Italian coffee, sample delicatessen delights and indulge with fresh pasta in a trattoria. You’ll even visit a tiny tortellini workshop.
Stay: Due Torri Hotel, Verona
Today, you’ll get your bearings with a walking tour, ambling along twisting laneways to stop at pretty piazzas. The Verona Arena is a special highlight. An astonishingly well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, it dates back to the 1st century and is still used as an opera venue to this day. There are plenty more Roman ruins to take in as well, along with a full spread of medieval churches and bridges. Of course, no trip to Verona would be complete with a visit to Juliet’s balcony.

Depart Verona aboard the Orient Express
After breakfast this morning, a private transfer will see you to Verona’s station, where you’ll be welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine. You’ll then be met on the platform by your personal steward, who’ll escort you to your private cabin. Here, polished wood panelling and lacy detailing recall all the grandeur of yesteryear. You’ll then be treated to epic views of the looming Dolomites as a three-course lunch is served in one of the restaurant cars, themselves beautified by fine crystalware and lacquerwork. Then, following afternoon tea in your cabin, you’ll be treated to a four-course dinner, with menus graced by the likes of Brittany lobster and Mont St. Michel lamb. Perhaps end the day with a cocktail in the bar carriage.

Paris to London
Having crossed over the Swiss Alps, you’ll wake to views of rural France. You’ll also enjoy breakfast at a time that suits you, served by your personal attendant. Then, rolling into Paris Gare du Nord, there’s some time to stretch your legs before you continue on to Calais, tucking into a gourmet brunch as you go. Following a channel-tunnel hop, you’ll then board the Belmond British Pullman. Every bit as opulent as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, its 1920s carriages are beautified by Art-Deco motifs and ornate mosaics, having hosted the likes of Her Majesty the Queen. You’ll also be treated to traditional afternoon tea, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine, before arriving into London Victoria – journey’s end.
