This tailor-made no-fly journey combines the best in Swiss rail travel with the delights of some of Europe's favourite regions. From Zurich to the Alps and even one of France's wine-making capitals, Dijon, you'll enjoy spectacular views, charming city culture and great food and wine. You'll take in the Bernina Express railway, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the world's slowest express train, the Glacier Express, on a scenic passage through the natural beauty of the Alps.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Zurich via Paris

You'll start your journey departing from London on the high-speed Eurostar in Standard Premier comfort, with included meal and wine. On arrival in Paris Gare du Nord station, choose to take a taxi or the Metro to Gare de Lyon station for your onward journey, connecting from Gare de Lyon to Zurich on the TGV Lyria. You'll check in to the Hotel Marktgasse with time to relax in your modern, airy room or explore the city for the evening. You're in the perfect location in the heart of Zurich, close to the old town area, Niederdorf, which boasts some of the city's best nightlife.

Day 2
Chur

Today you'll transfer by first class train to Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland, characterised by its winding streets and 800-year old cathedral. If time allows, a guided tour of the historic centre comes highly recommended - discover 5000 years of history with the free audio guide which can be downloaded in advance from the Chur Tourism website. The car-free city centre is primed for exploration on foot; a visit to the Bishop's Palace is a highlight, as are the colourful markets, boutiques and shops. Your hotel for the night is the traditionally Swiss Romantik Hotel Stern, complete with bar and wine cellar, perfect for a nightcap.

Day 3
Bernina Express

Today you'll experience a spectacular first class return journey on the Bernina Express to Tirano. This legendary railway line has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site, with world-renowned viaducts and Switzerland's pristine mountain landscape creating the perfect balance between nature and ingenious engineering. On arrival in Tirano you'll have a short time to explore or enjoy a quick lunch, before reliving the magical Alpine views once again on the return journey to Chur.

Day 4
Glacier Express to Brig

Today takes you on fascinating first class rail journey on the worlds slowest express train, with unrivalled views and an included four course lunch on the 4.5 hour route from Chur to Brig. Through the impressive Rhine gorge, over the Oberalp Pass and along the deep valley of the Rhone, the Glacier Express is a window to one of the most fascinating and impressive parts of the Alps. For those who want to know more about the route they're traversing, headphone commentary will tell you everything you need to know. You'll arrive in Brig in the afternoon, which leaves time to explore the lovely old town, known for its thermal baths, stately houses and cosy inns.

Day 5
Zermatt & Gornergrat

Today you'll visit a world-famous resort located at the foot of the Matterhorn, only accessible by train. The excursion to the Gornergrat is one of the most popular experiences in Switzerland, as the platform offers phenomenal views of the majestic Matterhorn and the surrounding Alpine peaks. You'll then have the opportunity to do a short hike following one of the well signalled trails between the stations on the route, or take a stroll through the boutique shops and restaurants of Zermatt before returning to Brig for the night.

Days 6-7
Dijon

Today you'll depart Brig for Dijon, the capital city of the historic Burgundy region in eastern France. Your hotel for the night, the Maison Philippe Le Bon, is situated just a two minute walk from the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, which holds a vast collection of historical artworks and sculptures. As well as being famous for its mustard, Dijon is one of the wine capitals of France, with a lively atmosphere that continues from day to evening. The following morning, you'll experience the Historic Dijon Market & Food small group walking tour. Along with an expert local guide and a maximum of 8 guests, you'll discover Dijon's hidden gems and taste local delicacies including gingerbread and kir, before returning to your hotel for a well-earned rest.

Day 8
London via Paris

You'll return by TGV Lyria to Paris Gare de Lyon, where once again you can choose to take a taxi or the Metro to Gare du Nord for your onward journey. Returning to London on the high-speed Eurostar, you'll enjoy Standard Premier comfort with included meal and wine, before your arrival in the UK.
