Channel your inner explorer with an exploratory cruise into the wilds of the Antarctic, joining dramatic ice floes, stopping at continent-dwarfing glaciers and spotting the region’s unique wildlife from giant whales to tiny penguins. It’s all brought to life by included Zodiac landings and the services of an expedition team throughout. But that’s not to say that you won’t travel in the utmost luxury. Your ice-class vessel – the most spacious in expedition cruising – is host to all-inclusive fine-dining experiences, open cocktail bars and a full complement of high-end facilities.

Please note: as featured in our Rail and Cruise brochure, this itinerary is also available with a pre-cruise stay in Buenos Aires, departing 20 Nov 2018.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

Begin your trip with complimentary airport lounge access before boarding you overnight flight to Chile.

Day 2
Santiago, Chile

On arrival in Santiago, an included transfer will see you to your accommodation – a Luxury Collection hotel complete with butler service, a superb spa and a cocktail bar with views across the city. But, outside your hotel, Santiago impresses with everything from pretty colonial architecture to skyscraping glass and steel that looks out over manicured hilltop parks. It's all set to a towering backdrop of snow-capped mountains – the Andes.

Stay: San Cristobal Tower (Deluxe)

Day 3

After breakfast, your included transfer will see you to your flight south to Ushuaia – the city at the end of the world. And, it wears its moniker with pride, its dramatic coastal setting hemmed in by snow-capped peaks. On arrival, your transfer will see you to the Silver Cloud. Its all-suite accommodation comes with walk-in wardrobes and complimentary minibars, while you’ll also be treated to all-inclusive dining that ranges from poolside grills to degustation meals from Relais & Châteaux’s Le Champagne. Days 4-5
Drake Passage

As you set sail, you’ll be introduced to the ship’s expedition team of marine biologists, ornithologists and historians who’ll lead your included excursions. But, you can expect unparalleled service throughout your time aboard, with the ship’s 200 guests served by 208 crew. And, sailing along the Drake Passage, you’ll follow in a long line of Antarctic explorers. Like those before you, you’ll soon encounter the Antarctic Convergence – a natural boundary between cold polar water flowing northward and warmer water moving southward. When these two currents meet, nutrients are pushed to surface, bringing with them a multitude of seabirds and whales.

Day 6
Antarctic Sound

As you journey south, you’ll pass through the Antarctic Sound where the pack ice thickens and an ever-changing world of iceberg sculptures and calving glaciers is dotted by a rich variety of wildlife. As you travel, you’ll see the sites and hear the stories of adventurers’ shipwrecks before making stops at key destinations. Highlights included the penguin colonies at Paulet Island and Hope Bay along with the seals that bask on the glaciers of Brown Bluff. However, it might just be the spectacular tabular icebergs that linger longest in the memory, having travelled from the mighty Larsen Ice Shelf further south.

Days 7-9
Antarctic Peninsula

While sailing the Antarctica’s white wilderness, your captain will decide a route that will take advantage of favourable sea and weather conditions. As such, itineraries vary, with Zodiac boat landings bringing you between Antarctica’s most spectacular vistas, wildlife collections and sites of human history. Spot fur seals among the dramatic bare rocks of Cuverville Island, stop off at a research station hidden among Paradise Bay’s glacial mountains and take in the penguin rookeries at Petermann Island. Here, the ship’s geologist will point out the continent-defining forces at work. Highlights also include a search for whales on Neko Harbour, Port Lockroy’s WWII listening station and a visit to Deception Island’s volcanic features, dotted with 20th-century history.

Day 10
The South Shetland Islands

Sailing through the Bransfield Strait from the Antarctic Peninsula, you’ll arrive at the South Shetland Islands. The first land before South America, this nine-strong collection was a favourite among sealers in the early 19th century before attracting the attention of the scientific community. As the warmest part of the continent, you’ll witness a changing ecosystem, with large moss beds, green lichens and even hair grass host to a range of penguins. The macaroni breed is a particular highlight for its emblematic yellow eyebrows.
