Enjoying a garden setting in the southern reaches of giant Lake Wanaka, Tin Tub offers spectacular views out over the fabled water to its mountainous frame. It’s a delightfully bucolic location, just a few minutes’ drive from the Wanaka town, one hour from Queenstown and within easy reach of six world class ski destinations – Cardrona, Treble Cone, Snow Farm, Snow Park the Remarkables and Coronet Peak. As you’d expect, there’s plenty of activities both skydiving high adrenaline and hiking relaxing.
Tin Tub’s three Lodge Rooms are its standout accommodation. Oversized windows, sizable decks and private outdoor tubs make the most of those superb Lake Wanaka views. Back inside, designer timber ceilings look down on contemporary whitewash walls and plush seating areas. The en suites are equally delightful, host to twin vanities and spa baths. There are also two Peak View Rooms with either queen beds or king singles. Here, French windows open on to balconies that feature yet more of those stunning views. WiFi, flat screen TVs and tea and coffee facilities are available throughout.
Your hosts, Trish and Barry, are faultlessly welcoming with Trish’s breakfasts a highlight. Expect homemade breads and muffins, fresh eggs and seasonal fruits from the bountiful Central Otago region. It’s all washed down with tea, coffee and fruit juice. For lunch and dinner, there’s a full range of restaurants in next-door Wanaka with everything from French bistros to Mexican burrito houses to choose from.
In spite of its bijoux size, Tin Tub features a range of excellent facilities. For summer, there’s a tennis court and solar heated swimming pool while winter welcomes with burning log fires both indoors and out. There’s also a sauna and gym along with a drying room for the avid skier. Guests have use of the lodge’s mountain bikes with nearby lake and fly fishing, hunting and hiking the perfect way to explore the countryside. Speak to Barry for some tailored recommendations.
