A 10-minute drive from the landing point at Marina Grande, the Mamela is minutes away from the historic centre of Capri with endless southward views over the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s a short walk from the impressive 14th-century San Giacomo Carthusian monastery, and other nearby attractions include the precipitous Gardens of Augustus, the villa and museum at Palazzo Cerio, excellent dining around Piazza Umberto I, designer shopping on Via Camerelle, and some delightful coastal walks.
All the rooms are airy and stylish, with marble or hand-painted ceramic floors, and come fitted with flat-screen TV and satellite channels, a mini-fridge and safe. Some rooms have sunken baths, and suites offer generous living space with sofas. All rooms have balconies, and it’s definitely worth paying extra for the tremendous ocean views.Dining
A generous continental buffet breakfast is served on the pool terrace overlooking the ocean. There is no restaurant on site for lunch or dinner, but excellent restaurants to suit all budgets can be found on the hotel doorstep and all over the island, from cosy pizzerias to high-end seafood specialists.
The teardrop-shaped unheated pool is perfect for a cooling dip in high summer. There’s a swift laundry/dry cleaning service and a comfortable bar/lounge leading onto the terrace. Other amenities include free WiFi and full concierge service. Head to the west of the island to join the spectacular Sentiero dei Fortini (Fortress Walk) between the Grotta Azzura and Punto Carena, ending with an evening dip beneath the lighthouse, and book a private yacht or speedboat for a day-long exploration of the dramatic and varied coast.
