Location
Enjoy luxury accommodation right on the edge of Lake Rotorua, ensconced by beautifully maintained mature gardens. The one acre of grounds includes sweeping lawns, a secret grotto and rose gardens where everything from purple hues to white accents are represented. There’s even a sandy beach for those lake swims. You’ll also be just a five minute drive from Rotorua’s town centre and geothermal attractions while a helicopter or seaplane trip – launching from the Black Swan jetty – can bring you further afield for a bird’s eye perspective of the region’s volcanoes and thermal parks.
Accommodation
Fusing the classic sophistication of an English manor with contemporary chic, individual fireplaces rub shoulders with en suite bathrooms that feature heated floors, solid stone soaking tubs and monsoon rain showers. While each of the eight guest rooms offer stunning views of the lake, gardens and pool, the private outdoor terrace of the Lakefront Rooms frame the topiary-fronted waters best. Set back from the waters, the Poolview Rooms offer better access to the lodge’s facilities while still maintaining sight of the lake.
Dining
Enjoy pre-dinner drinks at the bar before choosing between the lodge’s several excellent dining locations. You can dine fireside or overlooking the lake and even take a candlelit dinner for two in the conservatory, the secret grotto or al-fresco in the gardens. For dinner, menus focus on contemporary Pacific fusion food and must be prebooked in advance. Breakfast is served in the upstairs dining room where windows and terrace balconies feature yet more of those gorgeous views.
Facilities
The lodge’s salient feature is its excellent day spa where everything from two hour ‘Body Workouts’ to facials are available. The hot stone massages and beauty packages are particularly good. Perhaps end your session with a high tea or taster platter served with one of the cellar’s New Zealand vintages. Alternatively, the lawns are host to croquet and petanque boules along with a refreshing heated pool and two hot tubs that overlook the lake. Further relaxation can be found in the Finnish sauna. Don’t forget the sandy beach and the jetty fishing point; Lake Rotorua is considered one of the best lakes in the world to catch rainbow trout.
