Days 1–3 Tokyo
Arrive at Narita airport and take the Keisei Express skyliner train to your accommodation. Visit the Tsukiji fish market and soak up the sights of this vibrant city.
Day 4 Matsumoto
Take a train from Shinjuku, the busiest station in the world, through paddy fields and mountain passes to the alpine city of Matsumoto. Try sake at one of the city breweries and marvel at the ancient castle.
Days 5–6 Takayama
Descend by bus to Takayama and immerse yourself in this 16th century castle town. Admire the Edo period architecture of the inns and teahouses and stay in traditional ryokan accommodation.
Days 7–8 Shirakawago/Kanazawa
Set off early by bus to World Heritage-listed Shirakawago, which is considered one of the most scenic places in Japan. Continue to the coastal city Kanazawa and take in the beautiful Kenrokuen gardens.
Days 9–11 Kyoto
Travel by express train past the serene shores of Japan’s largest lake, Biwa-ko, to Kyoto – a treasure trove of Japan’s cultural heritage with more than 2,000 temples and shrines.
Day 12 Hakone
Take the Bullet Train to Odawara, gateway to Hakone National Park, famed for its hot spring baths. You can explore this area of great natural beauty using the provided Hakone ‘Free Pass’. On clear days you can even glimpse Mt Fuji in the distance.
Days 13–14 Tokyo
Return to Tokyo for your final night and some last-minute shopping, then transfer to the airport the next day.
