Visit Hofn

Introduction

Surrounded on three sides by sea, with the immense Vatnajökull glacier rising in the background, it is no surprise that the small fishing town of Hofn is considered one of the most picturesque destinations in Iceland. Located in the southeast, Hofn is sandwiched between the beautiful Eastern Fjords and Skaftafell National Park.

Every year the Humarhátíð Festival is held in Hofn to celebrate the large quantities of lobster fished in this area. Aside from fishing the other major industry in Hofn is tourism, its scenic location and proximity to the popular sites of Vatnajökull and Jökulsárlón making it the perfect centre from which to plan your Iceland holiday.

Pay a visit to nearby Skaftafell National Park, where you can walk across the frozen surface of Skaftafellsjokull glacier, or take a hike through the park to the basalt columns at Svartifoss.
