Rio de Janeiro has a lot more to offer the discerning holidaymaker in February than just carnival action.Travel editor at Lonely Planet, Tom Hall, said that while Rio is famed for its celebrations at this time of year, there are other options from which to choose. Staying in one of the beach towns will guarantee those who want to avoid the frenetic atmosphere a more relaxing time, he noted.
Mr Hall added: "There you'll find things will be a little bit calmer, you can rest up a little bit and it's a little bit less expensive, less frantic." The exchange rate is quite favourable at the moment, he went on to state, so it is the perfect time to enjoy some "once in a lifetime" experiences. Rio Carnival is a four-day festival that begins on 13 February, with similar events held countrywide in the run up to Easter.
