Colours of couture

Edourd 7

The Hotel Edouard 7 Paris is a sumptuous ’couture’ hotel in one of the city’s smartest Right Bank districts, near the Opera.

With elegance and sheer boldness the hotel has recently been refurbished around four key elements: audacity, seduction, personality and theatricality.

Vibrant colours and sumptuous fabrics have been used to ‘dress’ each of the haute couture rooms and a tactile blend of richly coloured wallpapers and fabrics combine to create a warm, vibrant and creative vibe.

The opulent array of colours and contrasting patterns placed in juxtaposition create a cohesive whole with genuine personality and friendly Parisien charm.

Edourd room

Wonderfully located on the Avenue de L’Opera, between the Opera Garnier and Louvre Museum, it is within walking distance of the Grand Magasins of Boulevard Haussman and just steps from Place Vendôme.

Housed within the prestigious Haussman-style hotel that was built on the site in 1877, it has the charismatic personality of its former royal mentor - King Edward. He chose the hotel as his principal residence while in Paris during his days as the Prince of Wales, where he loved to meet famous people of the time and mix with the Opera crowd.

Edourd interiors

Interiors were designed by the owner’s wife Merine Bessé, a lawyer turned hatmaker and designer, who was inspired by the fashion and fabrics of Galliano.

Bessé has given the hotel a tactile quality: patterns and furnishings demand to be touched as you walk the corridors or relax in your room. Throughout the hotel, lilac, red and black are the predominant colours, armchairs come from Duomo, wall carpet from Maison Edge and cushions and pillows from Lelièvre and Dedar.

The Couture Suites are all modelled after important women in Edward’s life: Sarah, Melba, Lily, Alexandra and Alice. Designed with rich fabrics such as velvet and silk, they are warm and cosy, theatrical and full of character.

The three upper ‘couture floors’ have 27 rooms in total, broken down into Rive Droite, Superieres, Deluxe and Junior Suites.

All have Art Deco inspired furniture, curvy lines and elegant details in the armchairs, headboards, lampshades, basins and mirrors. Every element has been conceived as an accessory to finish off an outfit.

In total 70 rooms are split over four ‘Edourd VII’ floors with 41 rooms and three upper ‘couture floors’ with 27 rooms.

With Pierre Hermé macaroons on arrival and creative cocktails in the bar or on the balconies overlooking the Opera Garnier, this could be the most stylish address in the 2nd arrondissement.

Macaroons

Friendly bar manager Victor Delpierre, who placed third in the ‘best mojito Paris 2010’ competition and was the 2007 French Headwaiter Champion at the world skills competition, has recently taken over the Edourd 7 Bar and is aiming to make it the place to have a great cocktail in the Opera District destination.

Edouard mojito

His ‘ice blue’ mojito was a refined explosion of mint and lime, while the tropical ‘El Draque’ version was a smooth, delightful affair.

Victor has a very genuine understanding of the art of cocktail making. He is extremely passionate about drinks and service and is more than willing to create bespoke cocktails to suit individual tastes - a welcome addition to an already fine hotel.
