The tropical beaches of Sri Lanka have been described as being among the highlights for tourists heading to the destination.Declaring Sri Lanka as a place to which people are "flocking back", Suite 101 writer Sanjiva Wijesinha has some suggestions of the sights to take in while there.
The beaches are recommended ahead of all other attractions, with the coastal road south from Sri Lankan capital Colombo also providing a wealth of nearby sights.
Mr Wijesinha added that these include the walled city of Galle, which was known as Tarshish in the times of King Solomon and has served as the centre of the region's gem and spice trades ever since.
Visitors are also told by the travel writer to look out for "stilt fishermen perched precariously on slender poles in the surf off Weligama".
Sri Lanka was recently ranked among the destinations likely to find favour with tourists in 2010, as the Abta Travel Trends Report predicted that it could move from the news headlines to the travel supplements in the coming 12 months.
