Sri Lanka 'has the X-factor'

Article content

23 December 2009

Holidays to Sri Lanka are going to become more popular in 2010 as individuals explore more exciting destinations.

This is according to the new Abta Travel Trends Report, which stated that "x-factor" trips are going to be the hot ticket next year.

"Sri Lanka may be among those countries that will jump from 2009's news pages and back into the travel supplements as a firm fixture on the tourist trail," the organisation said.

Aside from visits to the Indian Ocean, the body added, South Africa will also see a huge tourism boost as sports fans flock to see the World Cup.

Speaking on behalf of Abta, Frances Duke said that the travel industry has remained "remarkably resilient" in 2009 and next year jet setters are going to continue to be adventurous.

Writing for the Daily Mail recently, Jenny Coad commented that now is the optimal time to holiday in Sri Lanka as the island is beginning to embrace tourism.
