South Africa 'set for increase in tourism'

Article content

24 December 2009

South Africa is to become a popular destination for many travellers next year, according to one travel commentator.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Sebastian Lander noted that the country will benefit greatly from football fans looking to support their home nation in the 2010 World Cup.

He stated: "The major tour operators are already reporting that they are selling out of holidays during the competition itself."

Mr Lander went on to say that the event, which is to last for around 30 days, will kick off in Johannesburg and is to incorporate a number of cities, including Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

Preparations for the sporting spectacular should ensure it is safe for visitors and the government is required to improve its infrastructure to cope with the influx of people, he added.

Earlier this month, Charles Starmer-Smith commented in an article for the Daily Telegraph that approximately 25,000 English tourists are expected to make the trip to South Africa for the World Cup.
