Speaking to TravelMole, editor in chief of Cruise Critic, Carolyn Spencer Brown, explained that an array of ships will be introduced by operators in 2010.
"Look out for a host of new ships," she was quoted as saying, adding that this year will also see "more celebs at sea" and the "demise" of tipping policies.
The current practice of compulsory gratuities - which has been unpopular with some travellers - is being reviewed by a number of operators, including Royal Caribbean and P&O Australia, meaning guests will be able to leave tips at their own discretion.
Ms Spencer Brown added that cruise companies have been competing with each other to fill their cabins of late, a trend that is likely to continue, resulting in numerous "perks" for those going on cruise holidays.
Scott Anderson, general manager of White Star Cruises, recently told TravelMole that operators are currently offering some of their best-ever cruise deals.
