Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai in India is one of the country's most magnificent cities, it has been suggested.
Writing for The Times, Stanley Stewart described it as the "nation's economic powerhouse" that "bestrides the continent like a colossus".
According to Mr Stewart, while many people may often be attracted by Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore for their wonders, Mumbai can be considered the "heart and soul" of India.
Mumbai ranks highly not just in terms of great Indian destinations, he claimed, but is prominent on the world stage - reminiscent of London and New York in its magnificence.
"It is endlessly energetic and fatally charming," the journalist stated, adding that "every week there are hundreds of new arrivals", with some quarters predicting it to be the largest city in the world by 2025.
In November, the New York Times advised tourists to visit Rajasthan in India as it offers extravagant and luxurious sight-seeing opportunities.
