Mornington Peninsula: a hub for pinot noir

Article content

30 July 2010

First up is Peninsula Pinot Week (02-10 October). This popular week-long event includes dinners, tastings and cellar door activities that allow winemakers to share the fruits of their labours with enthusiasts. Many new wines will feature among a selection designed to showcase the best of the local offering.

Then, on January 28 and 29, 2011, many of the world’s leading producers of pinot noir from around with globe will converge on the region for the biennial Mornington Peninsula International Pinot Noir Celebration.

Considered one of the leading industry events in the world, this two-day event is must for pinot noir lovers and an opportunity to celebrate this cool climate variety from a global prospective.

Predominantly an event for industry and serious consumers, the celebration also includes one public event - the Pinot Garden Showcase on 30 January.

Held at Lindenderry, Red Hill, the showcase invites wine and food enthusiasts to enjoy a number of Mornington Peninsula pinot noirs, alongside delicious regional food in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Guests are given a tasting glass and can wander between the stalls, sampling food and wine and chatting to winemakers. A highlight of the showcase is the Burgundy Masterclass, held three times throughout the day.

Other Mornington Peninsula wine news:
After many years of planning and extensive renovations, Willow Creek Vineyard has undergone a major redevelopment of its historic homestead, wine cellar and adjoining Salix Bistro and deck.

The wine cellar has recently undergone a total makeover and the complete wine range is now at home behind a stunning bluestone tasting bench, amongst American oak wood panelled walls and right next door to the new Salix Bistro.

It provides the perfect place to experience Willow Creek’s complete range of single site wines, including sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, rosé, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon.
