Although considered by the mainstream industry an obsolete format, vinyl records continue to attract a strong cult following in Melbourne among DJs and the music-buying public.
A pair of vinyl turntables is typically found in most hip inner-city bars, while the sales of new and second-hand vinyl albums continue to flourish.
As well as the free map, Diggin’ Melbourne gives a rundown of each shop, the genres and formats they stock, contact details and opening hours.
The project is the brainchild of Chris Gill, of Northside Records in Fitzroy, with all stores contributing to costs of producing the map in the interests of promoting the Melbourne music scene.
Melbourne is renowned for its vibrant music scene, with live music venues, clubs, cafes and bars located throughout the cities many neighbourhoods.
