Melbourne hotel update

Article content

2 August 2010

New Art Series Hotel opens
The third hotel in the boutique Art Series Hotel chain, The Blackman, will open in Melbourne this month. Inspired by the work of Australian figurative artist Charles Blackman, the hotel is located on St Kilda Road just 2.5 kilometres from the CBD.

The hotel uses a bright palette of colours and furnishings throughout and features an original work from Blackman’s Alice in Wonderland series in the foyer.

The 209 rooms include a mix of King and Queen suites with large terraces and balconies offering sweeping views of the city. Two penthouses are the perfect luxury retreat or location for a lavish corporate event.

As with the other Art Series Hotels, The Blackman will have an in-house art curator, inspired, knowledgeable staff and an art library in every suite contributing to an all-round cultural experience.

The first two Art Series Hotels - The Cullen and The Olsen - opened in November 2009 and April 2010 respectively. A new curator tour, encompassing the art at all three hotels as well as small local galleries, will be launched shortly.

Stay and play at Middle Park Hotel
New boutique accommodation has opened at the historic Middle Park hotel. The first hotel to be designed by acclaimed local architects Six Degrees, the accommodation completes the major refurbishment of the property that also saw a revamp of the restaurant and bar.

The 25 luxury rooms feature the best of Melbourne furnishings and accessories, including patented bedding design from Chiropedic Bedding, complimentary Kevin Murphy toiletries, mini bar featuring Victorian wines and artisan beers and other locally made treats such as Cocoa Farm chocolate.

The hotel is just across the road from Albert Park, the location of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix track, which can be seen clearly from its top rooms.

The Westin Melbourne undergoes facelift
Five-star city hotel the Westin has celebrated its 10th birthday by unveiling a $5.5 million refresh of its 262 guest rooms. This includes updating the famous Heavenly Beds (a particularly popular feature with more than 1000 sold to guests for their own homes) to a larger king size, adding the latest flat screen TVs, Bose sound systems with iPod docking stations and, of course, new furnishings, carpets and upholstery.
