Machu Picchu in Peru is one of the most stunning locations in the world. This is the opinion of Suite 101 writer, Melissa Sullivan, who described visiting the city as a "once-in-a-lifetime experience".
Getting there can be achieved in a number of ways, she commented, with some opting to walk up the mountain from the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, which can take up to two hours.
Those less inclined to work up a sweat can catch a 20-minute bus ride to the top, Ms Sullivan added.
"Early in the morning, there is usually a thick cover of mist and fog, making it difficult to see much," she said. "But when the fog starts to lift, the scene is indescribable."
Earlier this month, Ms Sullivan wrote in a Suite 101 article that the city of Cusco is an often overlooked holiday destination for individuals staying in Peru.
Located near Machu Picchu, it has a rich and diverse history all of its own, she explained.
