Hotels in Goa are now offering more variety, with the traditional hedonistic reputation of the Indian state softened by detox retreats.
Writing for the Observer, Jane Dunford notes one of the newer additions to the ranks of hotels in Goa, the Beach House.
This is a beachfront spa resort that comprises a number of thatched huts set in picturesque gardens in which energising treatments can be undertaken.
Ceiling-height glass windows front the accommodation, allowing a view over the ocean.
The Observer columnist adds that the suites are "all dark wood and natural décor, with two bathrooms and a separate sitting room".
Meanwhile, holidaymakers heading to Kerala could find the temptation to indulge is overwhelming.
While Goa is turning into a detox retreat, Solange Hando recently wrote for Suite 101 that Kerala's cuisine is unmissable.
