Chile tourism 'set for boom'

Article content

23 October 2009

Chile is likely to grow in popularity as a tourism destination, it has been suggested.

A Bharat Book report published on eTurboNews noted that a "wealth of natural attractions" is among the factors working in its favour.

The South American country was also noted for having Easter Island as a territory, with its "mysterious statues" being popular with tourists.

Chile's government is, according to the report, aiming to increase the number of annual tourists from 2.5 million in 2007 to three million next year.

And this may be boosted by the emerging trend for eco-tourism, as it stated: "The southern tip of Chile is, for instance, already the jumping-off point for Antarctic tours."

Those hoping to pay a visit to Easter Island while on a tailor-made holiday to Chile could find it has become easier to do so, as cards requiring tourists to provide details about their movements are no longer compulsory
