Individuals looking for interesting places to visit while holidaying in India should consider a stop over in Chandigarh, one industry specialist has claimed.
Senior author for Lonely Planet India, Sarina Singh, stated it is becoming an increasingly popular destination for sightseers, especially those with specialist tastes.
She remarked: "Niche tourism - in Chandigarh's case, tourists with a penchant for architecture - also accounts for the rising number of foreign visitors to the city."
According to Ms Singh, people traditionally only used Chandigarh as a joining up place on their way to Pakistan, but its attractions have quickly seen holidaymakers stay for at least two days at a time.
It offers those weary of the "tourist treadmill" something a little different to experience while they are in India, she added.
The Department of Tourism in Chandigarh recently published figures showing that 60 per cent of the people visiting the area are from Britain, the US or Canada.
