Location
Makanyane has a transfer time between 3-4 hours from Johannesburg to the reserve by road and the flight from Johannesburg International Airport takes approximately 45 minutes. Situated on private ground within the ‘big 5’ Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s North West Province, the diverse African wilderness provides visitors with an unforgettable safari experience with rocky peaks, grasslands and valleys, each area populated with its own distinctive inhabitants.
Accommodation
Designed to have minimum environmental impact, the eight luxurious and secluded suites are constructed from local stone, wood and thatch to ensure guests continuously experience the natural beauty of their surroundings. The rooms overlook Marico River, offering uninterrupted views of the bush, each featuring glass-walled bedrooms, outside lounge area with private game-viewing sun deck, spacious bathrooms and both indoor and outdoor showers. Guests also have the opportunity to sleep under the stars- hidden deep on the lodge’s private ground is a second-story sleeping deck. Guests can have an unforgettable, unique and romantic experience under the African sky, surrounded only by the bush and lanterns.
Dining
Makanyane prides itself on the exceptional quality of its food and wines and are renowned for its excellent cuisine. Breakfasts are enjoyed communally with guides and other guests, whereas the remaining meals tend to be private. Lunches are buffet or afternoon tea-style, with a la carte three course dinners in an exciting fusion of local and international dishes, all prepared using the finest and freshest local and imported ingredients.
Facilities
Sanctuary Makanyane offers guests an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give back to conservation and interact directly with wildlife, either financially or practically in assisting impoverished local communities, as Makanyane actively support local community development initiatives. Early morning and evening game drives through the park provide guests with opportunities in spotting elephant, lion, white rhino, giraffe, wildebeest and several species of buck, leopard and wild dog. Game drives can be traded for a guided bush walk, or instead indulge in a wide variety of treatments at the lodge’s spa or for a swim in the infinity pool.
