Home to some of the greatest fashion houses in the world, Italy has been making its mark on fashion for generations. This spring, we’re looking to the chic streets of Milan, the sun-soaked coast of Amalfi, and the charmingly chaotic bustle of Rome and dreaming of what to pack for a luxurious Italian holiday...
Milan is a true style capital, and to blend in you’ll want to do as the Italians do, and travel with plenty of tailored black pieces and gold jewellery. The heels may be a bit optimistic… on the cobblestones, you may do better with flats!
Channel the vintage appeal of Amalfi in a high-waisted swimsuit and, for a cover-up, a classic button-down shirt. Why pack more than you need when you’re on holiday, if you can make a shirt do double-duty on the beach? Sunglasses and a hat are vital (even if your skin is able to bronze like the locals), as is a classic Italian beach read – Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend is always a favourite.
The noise and energy of Rome require clothes that can keep up—bright colours, a small but punchy handbag, and shoes that let you hop onto your Vespa with ease.
