Woods joins other big name signings for the 2010 JBWere Masters, including Australian star Geoff Ogilvy, Spaniard Sergio Garcia and Colombian Camilo Villegas.
The 2009 event set a new benchmark for Australian golf, with record crowds and television audiences and an estimated AUD$34 million injected into the Victorian economy. The 2010 JBWere Masters will be Woods’ only Australian appearance and organisers hope to attract more than 100,000 people to the tournament.
Victoria’s Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding said the announcement would be welcomed by the tourism industry with almost 40 per cent of visitors to last year’s event coming from interstate or overseas.
"Last year hotels and the tourism sector enjoyed the best week of the year with many at full capacity, and golf courses around Victoria reported dramatic increases in business in the weeks and months following the tournament," Mr Holding said.
Victoria’s superb golfing facilities will get more recognition in 2011 when the prestigious Royal Melbourne Golf Club hosts the Presidents Cup from 14-20 November.
The 2010 JB Were Masters will take place from 11-14 November at Melbourne’s Victoria Golf Club.
