Travelling up Table Mountain in Cape Town is much more fun using a cable car, it has been claimed.Writing for Suite 101, John Bartels noted that seeing the city from this viewpoint is "spectacular" and "dramatic".
"The ascent by the cable car is unforgettable," he remarked. "The cable car's floor rotates 360 degrees and so provides a breathtaking panoramic view."
Famous faces to have enjoyed this particular mode of transport include King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah Winfrey and Tina Turner, Mr Bartels said.
Tourists should make sure they take the trip on a day with good visibility and need to be aware that the cableway does not operate in high winds, explained.
Visitors were also advised to take a journey during the late afternoon, as they can see the sun set and view the lights of Cape Town twinkle below.
Mr Bartels recently commented in a Suite 1010 article that walking down the beach at Sea Point in Cape Town is one of South Africa's cost-free pleasures.
