As of the 1 April 2016, Uluru has a lights display to match its raking sunsets and ethereal dawns. British artist Bruno Munro has used over 50,000 frosted glass spheres linked by 380 kilometres of fibre optic cable to set whole tracts of the red desert aglow.
However, get a little closer on a walk through the ‘flowers’ and the display appears as a gently pulsating veined patchwork. It’s an apt metaphor for a sacred land, revered by the Aboriginal population as central to their creation myth and cultural traditions. However, it’s only available until 31 March 2017, so be sure to catch the bloom while it’s still in season.
