Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat is an award-winning property nestled deep in the Cederberg Mountains, just a few hours drive from Cape Town.
Of particular note are the 130 rock art sites that Bushmans Kloof guards and conserves. Many of these predate the world’s most visited temples and ruins, painted on by bushmen as long as 120,000 years ago. They can only be viewed by archaeologists, researchers and Bushmans Kloof guests, who can visit on excursions with highly trained guides.
Other activities include daily game drives, hikes, canoe trips and specialised talks. Accommodation comprises 16 elegantly furnished rooms and suites – all with private terraces – and the Koro Lodge, a private villa which boasts its own pool, chef and guide.
Seasonal dishes are the house speciality, using fresh ingredients from the reserve’s own vegetable, fruit and herb gardens. There’s even a spa with a great range of treatments.
We like: The beautiful flora of this region, particularly during spring (August-October) when the wildflowers are in bloom.
Best for: Complete relaxation and unashamed luxury in an area of unspoilt, natural beauty.
