Sapa in Style, Vietnam
Sapa lies in the very north-west of Vietnam near the Chinese border. It’s the ’other’ major excursion from Hanoi, the first being Halong Bay. To reach this former French hill station, you’ll travel by the colonial-style Victoria Express train, exclusively reserved for guests of the Victorian Sapa Resort, your home for two nights during your stay in Sapa.
Day 1 Hanoi - Sapa
Transfer to the train station in Hanoi to catch the overnight Victoria Express train to Lao Cai.
Day 2 Sapa
On arrival at Lao Cai you’ll be met for the 35 km drive up to Sapa, passing spectacular mountain scenery to finally reach this charming town, set amongst the highest and most beautiful mountains in Vietnam. After breakfast, drive the short distance south towards Muong Hoa Valley, and then descend by foot through the largest terraced rice paddy area in the Sapa region. The walk takes you through the village of Lao Chai, home to the Black Hmong minority, then on to Ta Van village, inhabited by the Giay minority. In the afternoon visit beautiful Thac Bac Waterfalls and Vietnam’s highest road point, Heaven’s Gate, for stunning views of the valley below.
Day 3 Sapa
Drive a short distance out of Sapa for a walk to a Red Dao village. One of the area’s best known and most colourful minorities, Red Dao women shave their heads and eyebrows and wear bright scarlet turbans. The Dao are also well known for their intricate embroideries. After exploring the village, return to Sapa for a late lunch, and an afternoon at leisure.
Day 4 Sapa - Hanoi
Free time to further explore the town and the many walks around the area, and to enjoy the grounds and facilities of the hotel. In the evening descend to Lao Cai and enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants before boarding the overnight train for the return trip to Hanoi.
Day 5 Hanoi
Early morning arrival at Hanoi Railway Station. You’ll be met and transferred to your hotel.
