The Lost Civilisation Cruise
The Lost Civilization cruise is a classic journey into the glorious past along the Mekong River featuring cultural heritage, royal architecture, ancient traditions, and insights into rural Vietnam and Cambodia. The Jayavarman is a boutique-style luxury river cruise liner.
Accommodation comprises 27 staterooms and junior suites each with sliding glass doors giving way to a private French balcony.
DAY 1 SAIGON–CAI BE Embark on The Jayavarman. Leaving the hustle and bustle of Saigon behind, cruise through the unescolisted Mangrove Biopshere Reserve of Can Gio to arrive at Cai Be at nightfall.
DAY 2 CAI BE–CHAU DOC Explore Cai Be’s colourful floating market with its beautiful riverside cathedral as a backdrop. Take a stroll along the canals and visit the ancient house of An Kiet for tea. Cruise towards Chau Doc.
DAY 3 CHAU DOC– BORDER CROSSING Step ashore at Vietnam’s fish farming capital, Chau Doc. Explore this fascinating town of French colonial architecture, and take a boat ride to the floating villages and catfish farms. Cruise towards Phnom Penh.
DAY 4 PHNOM PENH The historical capital of Cambodia has retained its French colonial charm. Sightseeing includes the Royal Palace, Wat Phnom and the Genocide Museum.
DAY 5 PHNOM PENH–KAMPONG CHAM Cruise past the Mekong’s tranquil villages, visiting Wat Nokor en route and the Cheung Kok Ecotourism Village.
DAY 6 KAMPONG CHAM–WAT HANCHEY Journey upriver to the pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding paddy plains and receive a blessing from local monks.
DAY 7 KAMPONG CHAM–KAMPONG CHHNANG–TONLE SAP Cruise the Tonle Sap River. Visit Kampong Louang and Kampong Chhnang.
DAY 8 TONLE SAP–SIEM REAP Cruise across Tonle Sap Lake to Siem Reap (Jul–Dec)/ Prek K’dam (Dec–Jun, transfer to Siem Reap).
