Day 1: Washington, DC
Arrival in Washington, DC, check-in to The Hay-Adams Hotel located across from the White House - head out and experience Washington, DC’s vibrant nightlife.
Day 2: Washington, DC
Spend a day exploring America’s exciting capital city. A fun way to see many of Washington, DC’s major attractions is with a guided ’Bike the Sites’ tour - join a guided tour or explore on your own. Take a look at life in some of the lively neighbourhoods like Georgetown and Adams Morgan, or visit one of the 19 museums that belong to the famous Smithsonian Institution. This evening perhaps take an optional tour of Washington’s ’Monuments by Moonlight’.
Day 3: Charlottesville, Virginia
Head out of the capital for a leisurely drive towards Charlottesville. At Front Royal you’ll find the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and the scenic Skyline Drive. An early start today will allow you to make a few stops along the way for photographs, a short hike, a picnic lunch with a spectacular view or a side trip to Luray Caverns. Continue to Keswick Hall, a luxurious mansion-style hotel located on the outskirts of Charlottesville and your home for the next two nights.
Day 4: Charlottesville, Virginia
Charlottesville is perhaps best known for the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson. It is also home to Jefferson’s Monticello estate, which is open daily to visitors and the historic Downtown Mall with its shops, restaurants and galleries. Virginia has been named one of the top five up and coming wine regions in the world and Charlottesville has a number of excellent vineyards. Join a wine tour for the opportunity to taste a range of award-winning wines.
Day 5: St. Michaels, Maryland
Today you may decide to plan your route to Maryland via Fredricksburg to visit one of great battle sites of the American Civil War. Be sure to stop in Annapolis, the waterfront capital of Maryland, a charming town of cobblestone streets and historic buildings. The downtown harbour area is good for shopping and a delicious fresh crab lunch. It’s just over an hour’s drive from Annapolis to the pretty town of St. Michaels on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the delightful Inn at Perry Cabin.
Day 6: St. Michaels, Maryland
In St. Michaels, boutiques are set among restored Victorian homes, sail boats and bicycles are the preferred methods of transport, seafood is the town’s speciality, five golf courses are close by and beautiful views of the water lie all around.
Day 7: Depart
Head back to Washington, DC, return your car and check-in at the airport for your flight back to the UK.
