Member FAQs
Why haven’t I heard of WEXAS before?
That’s not a surprise. As an exclusive travel club, WEXAS doesn’t advertise to the general public. Most of our members have been invited to join. We organise travel for thousands of passionate travellers (and over 500 businesses too). Our Honorary Presidents include Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Michael Palin, David Bellamy and John Simpson – so you’re in good company.
Can I make travel bookings for family and friends?
Yes, your family and friends can make their travel bokings on your WEXAS Membership.
Do WEXAS charge booking fees for flights?
As most airlines have now abolished or reduced paying commission to travel agents, we reserve the right (as do most agents) to charge a modest fee for booking and ticketing as necessary. When booking UK or European flights, our minimum booking fee is £15 per ticket. This includes reservations made on ‘no-frills’, charter and scheduled airlines. For intercontinental (non-European) flights, WEXAS does not make a charge for discounted, special or exclusive fares. If you choose to book a non-discounted fare (as published by the International Air Transport Association – IATA), we would typically charge between £15 and £20 per ticket. Finally, if you require your ticket on departure (TOD), it costs £15 plus any airline charge. Fees may vary according to airline, route and class of travel, the details of which will be discussed with you before making your reservation.
Don’t forget, our trained holiday experts can find what you’re looking for quickly and efficiently, so you don’t have to trawl through the phonebook and internet for the best offers. We’ll do the work for you.
What if I need to make changes to my ticket?
We’re happy to assist you in making changes to your travel arrangements. If you require a ticket to be amended, revalidated or reissued this costs £25 plus any airline fee. Refunding a ticket costs from £25 per IATA airline ticket. A tax-only refund costs £15.
Is there a charge for booking hotels?
For all our preferred hotel chains and directly contracted accommodation, there is no charge. If your chosen hotel is not contracted by WEXAS, then there will be a £10 booking fee.
Am I financially protected with WEXAS?
Should you book flights and accommodation with WEXAS, then the money you pay us is safe. Our bonding with the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and our Civil Aviation Authority Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL), plus our IATA ticketing licence, provides the fullest financial protection against the unlikely event of WEXAS becoming insolvent.
The same is not true if you buy tickets from airlines direct (or when we’ve paid your money to them). They don’t have such financial protection – if they become insolvent, your money will be lost or, worse still, you could be left stranded at your destination. Therefore, we strongly recommend adding accommodation to your flight booking or, if you’re buying just the flight, taking out Airline Financial Failure Protection insurance at just £3 per passenger, to protect you against the insolvency of an airline.
Will I be notified of any changes to my subscription?
Should there be any changes to your annual subscription, you’ll be advised in Vista – the members’ quarterly. This would be in good time, normally the autumn preceding any change at the start of the following year.
What happens if I cancel my membership?
If you want to cancel your membership, simply tell us in writing and return your membership card to our membership department. If you’ve been offered a free trial period and decide to cancel within that period, you won’t be charged for your membership. If you’re a fully paid-up member and want to cancel, your record will be amended so that the next membership subscription payment due is not taken – please note you may still receive communications from WEXAS up to the end of your subscription period. You won’t receive any refund for the unused portion of your membership, and we may contact you to ask for feedback on how we can improve our service or make it more relevant for you in the future.
Is my membership subscription refundable?
Your WEXAS membership is non-refundable from date of payment. Your subscription covers the cost of producing and distributing WEXAS publications, plus all your other benefits and services. Other club costs are covered by travel commissions and the fees we charge on some bookings.
