Exclusive IoD offer

The ICEHOTEL is the only upmarket establishment in the world where you’re guaranteed a frosty reception. Every October, huge chunks of crystal-clear ice are cut from Sweden’s River Torne and pieced together in the village of Jukkasjärvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The hotel opens its doors from December through to late spring, when the ice melts back into the river, drawing intrepid travellers from around the world. This popular short break combines one night in an ICE room with two nights in heated accommodation.

Day 1: Arrival

Fly to Kiruna via Stockholm with Scandinavia Airlines and transfer to the ICEHOTEL - you could even choose to arrive in style, on a sleigh pulled by huskies. Pretty much everything in the ICEHOTEL, from the sculpted beds to the private chapel, is made of ice; even the chandeliers were once flowing water. Upon arrival, you’ll be given thermal clothing and shown to your ICE room, which is decorated with unique artwork and in which even the furniture is made from ice. Specially designed ice beds are draped in reindeer hides, upon which lies your cosy thermal sleeping bag.

Sleeping in one of these rooms can best be compared to igloos, and with room temperatures hovering around -5°C the designers have gone for reindeer pelts and expedition-strength sleeping bags instead of crisp linens. In the evening you can walk around the intricately moulded corridors, take a meal in the ICEHOTEL Restaurant, which offers a high-end a la carte menu in a bright and modern atmosphere. The cuisine of ICEHOTEL Restaurant has been featured in gourmet magazines around the world and has been awarded the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette. In October 2007, the Nordic Council of Ministers awarded ICEHOTEL the honorary New Nordic Food diploma - and later pause for a cocktail at the Absolut Icebar.

Days 2–3: Optional Excursions

After waking to a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside, a breakfast buffet and a warming morning sauna, the ICEHOTEL offers many exciting activities and excursions, from snowmobiling, dogsledding and skiing to ice sculpting, driving a reindeer sleigh with the indigenous Sami people, and a horseback ride to view the Northern Lights.
