Ivory Lodge, Lion Sands, Kruger National Park

Location

Ivory Lodge, situated on the banks of Sabi River in Lion Sands Game Reserve, bordering the southern Kruger National Park, is the only private reserve with access to both Sabie and Sand Rivers, ensuring a truly memorable safari experience and some of South Africa's finest game viewing. If you've time, the lodge can be accessed via a five-hour drive from Johannesburg, stopping overnight to explore the scenic Panorama Route. Alternatively, Airlink has a daily return flight scheduled from Cape Town International and twice daily from Johannesburg to Skukuza Airport from where it's an easy transfer to the lodge.

Accommodation

Each of the lodge's spacious suites - all steel, wood, thatch and glass – are connected to their own private sun deck, viewing deck and a heated plunge pool offering complete privacy and views out across the reserve. Back inside, floor-to-ceiling windows let in the light, and the view, which can be enjoyed from the large living space with sofas and a fire, the huge double bed or the free-standing bath tub. Indoor and outdoor showers add an extra slice of luxury. And, if you're after a truly special experience, Ivory Lodge's new Treehouses afford the unique opportunity to sleep out in the bushveld on raised platforms, which come complete with four-poster beds and flowing mosquito nets. Heading out with a guide, you'll watch the sun set with drinks and a gourmet picnic dinner settling in for a night under the stars.

All meals are tailor-made to individual requirements, focusing upon Pan-African gourmet style cuisine. There's everything from pre-safari continental breakfasts to romantic dinners served in the bush or in the privacy of your suite.

Facilities

Activities include morning and evening game drives, offering the chance to spot wildlife in what is arguably Africa’s most pristine Big-five territory, in the safety of open safari vehicles, accompanied by an expert ranger and guide, of course. Guests are also invited to join in bush walks, bird watching, river walks, wildlife lectures, wellness treatments and visits to sights on historical significance and local village experiences.
