Sample itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Arrive and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Lima to the Sacred Valley
Fly across the mighty Andes to Cuzco, then continue by road to the Sacred Valley. Visit Pisac en route (a riot of colour on market days), and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.
Day 3 Machu Picchu
Travel by train to these majestic mountainside ruins. Learn of the site’s Inca history with a full-day tour.
Days 4-5 Cuzco
Return to Cuzco by rail and explore the town’s many fascinating museums, markets, churches and cathedrals.
Day 6 Quito
Fly to Quito via Lima. Transfer to your hotel and then enjoy an evening tour of the city before dinner. The city’s evening illuminations add real drama to the baroque architecture.
Day 7 The Avenue of Volcanoes
Travel from Quito to Riobamba aboard a traditional South American bus, the Chiva Express. Watching the Andean scenery from atop the roof is a real highlight.
Day 8 Cuenca
Continue by Chiva Express to the colonial town of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 9 Guayaquil
Descending down through the Andes to Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city, by road is a fantastic journey
Days 10-13 Cruising in the Galapagos
Fly to the Galapagos to join a four-night cruise aboard M/V Santa Cruz. Enjoy an enormous diversity of wildlife by air, land and sea. M/V Santa Cruz was built exclusively for Galapagos cruising. Its 46 cabins, each with either porthole or picture windows, occupy three decks to increase stability and reduce seasickness. The massive deck has a bar, jacuzzi and observation platform and excursions are led by a team of experienced naturalists.
Days 14-15 Guayaquil
Return to Guayaquil for the return UK flight the next day.
