Lake Titicaca
We recommend a stay on the Island of Suasi, reached by boat from Puno. En-route youll stop to visit the floating islands of the Uros Indians, made entirely from woven reeds. The friendly locals live, fish and hunt birds from these islands and warmly open their homes to visitors. On Taquille Island, you can see pre-Inca and Inca ruins as well as displays of the current inhabitants fine weaving skills.
At the Suasi Casa Andina Private Collection hotel the views are fabulous. Its a private, 43-hectare island and the only property there, an eco friendly retreat, which functions purely on solar energy. Walk among the flowers and gardens and discover the local wildlife. If relaxing is more your style, then there is a spa and library at your disposal. Star gazing in such a remote area is superb and some of the rooms have sky windows so you can admire the stars while tucked-up in a warm and comfy bed.
