While the ICEHOTEL in Sweden prides itself on being the largest snow hotel. Norway’s Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel has a more intimate atmosphere. Every year, this 30-room designer igloo is built from scratch out of ice and snow and decorated with wonderful ice sculptures. Norwegian Lapland makes an ideal winter break, whether you’re looking for peace in a snowy and serene setting or an action-packed holiay spent on snowmobiles and dogsleds on the hunt for the Northern Lights.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Fly with Scandinavian Airlines to Alta in northern Norway via Oslo and self-transfer to the Thon Hotel Vica Alta for check-in. The Thon Hotel Vica is a converted farm close to the town’s shops and museums. Relax in the hotel before views of the beautiful Altafjord, enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and relax in the outdoor hot tubs* & if you are lucky the Northern Lights will be swirling above you. Dinner at the hotel in included.
Day 2: Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel
Breakfast at Hotel Vica and free time to explore the town of Alta. In the afternoon you’ll be transferred to Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. It is possible to dine in restaurant Laksestua that is adjacent to the Igloo Hotel (payable locally). After dinner there is a guided tour around the hotel and you will be given practical information about the overnight stay.
Outside are two heated whirlpools, designed to let you sit and soak beneath the Northern Lights whilst inside the temperature in the igloo varies between -4 c and -7 c degrees. You spend the night wrapped up comfortably in sleeping bags and reindeer skins.
Day 3: Snowmobile Safari
Warm up in the sauna and have breakfast at the Igloo hotel. At 10 o’clock you’ll set off for a snowmobile safari on the Finnmarksvidda. Lunch is served en route in the wilderness. Transfer back to Alta town centre in the afternoon and check in to Thon Hotel Vica. Dinner is once again included.
Day 4: Departure
Breakfast and self transfer to Alta airport
Fly with SAS scheduled flight back to home via Oslo.
