The Observatory ★★★★★
Sydney, New South Wales
Traditional, even grand, in its décor
and furnishings (think mahogany and tapestry), absolutely modern in
its amenities (think spa and flotation tank), The Observatory is as
excellent as you’d expect of an Orient Express hotel. And it’s
superbly located too in the historic Rocks area, ideal for
exploring Australia’s most vibrant city.
The Drawing Room, with its open
fireplace and collection of portraits of famous Australians
in pastels, is tasteful and elegant.
Whatever the season, the heated 20-metre pool looks inviting, while
a more energetic workout in the gymnasium may appeal. In contrast,
what could be more relaxing than a visit to the Day Spa…and that
flotation tank.
Cocktails in the Globe Bar followed by
an exquisite dinner in the Galileo Restaurant add up to a perfect
ending to a hectic Sydney day. For a calming and intimate antidote
to an energetic city, we commend the delights of The
Observatory.
