Gourmet Japan
Our Gourmet Japan tour is a trip through Japan's heart and kitchen. Experience the sights of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and have a gastronomic feast along the way. The tour gives you the opportunity to sample authentic Japanese cuisine and have an insight into Japanese culture by exploring the cooking, presentation and serving rituals.
Days 1–3 Tokyo
On arrival at Narita Airport you’ll be met and transferred to the Narita Express train for your journey to Tokyo. Taxi vouchers are provided for your transfer from the station to the Park Hotel, your home for the next three nights. Tokyo may not seem the most attractive city on the surface, but the city has vibrancy and charm all of its own. Your stay includes a full day private guided tour of the city, and dinner at a Japanese Izakaya – a great way to understand this mainstay of the Japanese eating out.
Days 4–7 Kyoto
Leave Tokyo on the famous Bullet Train, travelling down the east coast to Kyoto. On a clear day you’ll have superb views of Mt Fuji. Kyoto is the Imperial Capital of Japan, and having been spared the blanket bombing of the war, retains much of its original character and charm. You’ll spend four nights at the Yoshikawa Tempura Ryokan, one of the hidden gems of Kyoto’s traditional inns, and famous for its Tempura Kaiseki dinners. Your stay in Kyoto includes a full day private guided tour of the city; a walking lecture of the geisha areas of Kyoto followed by a gourmet kaiseki lunch with a maiko (geisha); and an exciting home cooking course in a private home.
Day 8 Mount Koya
Travel by train to Koyasan via Osaka. Mt Koya is one of the holiest mountains in Japan. At Koya-san you’ll stay the night at the Shojoshin-in which is one of the larger temples in Koya-san. Dinner and breakfast are included.
Days 9–10 Osaka
Take the train back to Osaka where you’ll spend your last night at The Cross Hotel. Your tour ends at Kansai airport (Osaka) on day ten.
